Learn to Spin Wool!

Learn the basics of handspinning wool yarns using hand spindles and
spinning wheels. The series will provide a hands-on introduction to
handspinning techniques, fiber characteristics, and the basics of
fiber preparation. Students will make a basic hand spindle (yours to
keep) and use instructor-provided spinning wheels in class. Fiber for
class and 'homework' are included. Additional fiber and hand-turned
drop spindles will be available for purchase at Esoterica. Classes
are Tuesday nights, September 11th through the 16th from 7 to 9 pm.

Instructor: Ashley Wells, Willow Hawk Farm. Ashley is a veteran
handspinner, weaver, dyer and shepherd. She and her husband produce a
variety of fiber for handspinners on their farm in Lovettsville.

Ever wanted to learn how to drum? Here's your chance! Hand-drumming
classes are Thursday nights at Esoterica September 27th through
November 1st. Learn types of drums and their origins, several Middle
Eastern rhythms (Baladi, Chiftitelli, Ayoub and Karachi), techniques
for Shamanic Drumming, Drum Circle etiquette and so much more! Each
class has an hour-long lecture portion, then an hour of hands-on
drumming! A few drums will be available for use by those who do not

Reiki I and II

Reiki is an ancient alternative healing modality that helps relieve
stress and tension. Reiki is a Japanese word meaning Universal
Life-Force Energy. The Ki part is the same word as Chi or Qi part is
the same word as Chi or Qi, the Chinese word for the energy which
underlies everything. Reiki is a system for channeling that energy to
someone for the purpose of healing.

Students will learn this ancient art of healing in a small class
setting through a combination of lecture & hands-on experience.

Reiki I includes the history of Reiki, how to use Reiki for
self-treatment & treatment of others, the Reiki hand positions, and
the opportunity to give & receive a full Reiki treatment. Each student
is attuned to the Reiki Energy to become a Certified Reiki I
Practitioner. Class includes manual and certificate upon completion.
Reiki I costs $155 and there are classes on Saturday, September 15th
and Saturday, October 13th from noon to 5 pm.

Reiki II teaches Reiki I practitioners greater proficiency at energy
healing and introduces new healing symbols. Students will learn these
new healing techniques in a small class setting through a combination
of lecture & hands-on experience. Each student is attuned to the Reiki
Energy to become a Certified Reiki II Practitioner. Class includes

more than 600 vigils planned and in some key target areas we'll have a
town hall meeting before the vigil. Together, we'll remind Congress and

the media about the real cost of this war before the big showdown in
Washington D.C. this fall. Can you make it?

This Weekend 18-19 August

As Always we will have readers this weekend here at Esoterica. Leoni, Kevin and Irene will be in to do Tarot readings - Leoni also does animal communication using animal fur, hoof/nail/claw clippings - very cool to witness. Trisha will be in to do seated massage. Ron will be in later to do Palm reading and Handwriting Analysis.

Saturday night we have a concert with Maugorn - who plays a variety of instruments - focusing on a wide range of folk, celt and rock music to entertain. (Stolen from another website) Maugorn The Stray (aka Steve Haug) sings and plays a vast array of instruments. In Wild Oats, he played guitar, mandolin, harmonica, banjo, electric bouzouki, tenor banjo, and recorder, acoustic and electric 12-string guitars, banjo, harmonica, and siren-whistle. He has a wonderful voice and a fun rapport with the audience - so come on down for a free concert, but don't forget to tip the musician!!! We also have cookies, tea and lemonade available, with a cookie tip jar to make sure we always have something on hand for you when you come to visit us here at Esoterica.

This Weekend 10-12 August

All kinds of good things are in the air! Friday and Saturday we get to hear the wonderful vocal arrangements of James Gilchrist and Julie Sherwood - 7to9 Friday and 4 to 6pm on Saturday. Then we have MORE Music Saturday Night - when Moontide comes to play some of their new music, and hopefully give us a taste of their new upcoming CD.

We also have some extra Psychics on hand this weekend. We will have Leoni (Tarot) and Ron (Palms, Handwriting, etc) Friday thru Saturday. Kevin (Tarot), Noemia (Medium), Esmerelda (Tarot and Oracle Cards), and Beth (Runes) will be here on Saturday - and if we get lucky we will also have Trisha doing seated massage. Sunday will be Ron, Kevin & Beth, with Melanie doing Reiki if we have takers. Saturday is also Noemia's class on the basics of Channeling Spirits, with some observations on how she does what she does ( ;-> ) and some contacts with the departed if they decide to make an appearance. Class runs from 1 to 2:30, costs is $25 prepaid, $40 at the door on Saturday IF there are any spaces left over (we have a 20 person maximum for this class, and we only have four spots left). So... We are hoping to placate our store ghosties, who apparently have been itching for us to have a late night party. So... We are taking advantage of the release of the last Harry Potter book as an excuse to have a party. Completely Unplanned... where we know a lot of our loyal customers are going to be elsewhere, but what the heck. So... If you are so inclined, bring something to add to the libations, some munchies, and we will all pool our resources and have some late night fun in the store and get our Ghosties and Guardians into the 'spirit' of things. I am going to be cross posting this all over the place - so don't be surprised if you see it in more than one place. We have only the CD player for tunes, so if you have some interesting tunes that you think might appease the masses and those on the 'other side' bring them along too and we will try them out (i can't guarantee we will play the who thing - just in case someone has a violent reaction to your selection ;-> )
